15NRHC Recommendation - 03/26/2019 - 19:10

That for a research project to be classed as “rural” at least one of the principal investigators should reside in the region, the next adjacent region or a rural or remote region similar to the proposed research. This ensures rural research capacity is developed and the community in question can have some confidence of an ongoing interest other than being a population of interest or convenience for metropolitan researchers.

Other ways to address this are to put quotas on the amount of research dollars to be spent in rural areas or redesign grant criteria to prioritise research in rural areas.

Would be great to have a minimum, proportion of research funding to be prioritised for RRR research
