A proposal that the National Rural Health Alliance develops a statement of position that acknowledges the science of climate change and observes that anthropogenic contribution to climate change encompasses the inevitable link between human activity and degradation of the environment. In consequence, many vulnerable populations are at rising risk of 'neglected tropical diseases'. Addressing 'neglected tropical diseases' requires an ecological approach to health and health care models and must be seen as an urgent priority. This statement of position through the NRHA can then become the backbone by which the Alliance itself and member bodies generate collective impact for better health, sustainable services and sensitive economic development of northern Australia that powers improvements in health, as well as social and economic participation by residents in remote communities.
