As Head of School Services at Royal Far West and Director at Western NSW Primary Health Network, Danielle’s leadership is defined by care, connection, and a relentless drive to improve access for children in Australia’s most remote communities.

Danielle is a country girl to her core. Her deep roots in rural NSW have shaped a career built on genuine relationships—with school principals, Aboriginal education workers, parents, and children. Her colleagues say she “builds genuine connections with stakeholders from board members to children,” and that she “embeds herself in the delivery of services from negotiating contracts to attending community visits and providing direct speech pathology.”

Her impact is felt across four states, where she leads a team of 58 clinicians delivering allied health services to over 260 schools and early learning centres. But her focus is always on the children. “Dan always puts the children at the focus of all the work she does,” say her team leaders. “She is about making sure we make the most impact to the most children.”

That impact is driven by a passion for equity. Danielle works tirelessly to remove roadblocks and inefficiencies, smoothing decision-making pathways to ensure timely access to vital services. She is acutely aware of the lack of services in Australia’s smallest and most remote communities and ensures, wherever possible, that these children receive high-quality, integrated, and flexible care.

In the past year alone, Danielle has led the rollout of a Specialist Disability Support in Schools program in remote Queensland, worked with her team to secure a national paediatric telecare contract, and supported community visits in Bourke and Wilcannia to tailor services to local needs. Her colleagues describe her as “respectful during interactions with external stakeholders from a range of communities,” and someone who “integrates local knowledge and uses her expertise in the health sector to work towards tailoring allied health services to ensure a culturally safe and supportive environment.”

Danielle’s leadership style is inclusive and empowering. She recognises the talent and commitment of her team, providing opportunities for them to pursue their passions, build skills, and contribute to service design, advocacy, and research. “Dan supports the implementation of high-quality services, ensuring they are efficient, evidence-based, and clinicians are provided with adequate support,” say her colleagues. She also maintains clinical supervision of speech pathologists, staying closely connected to best practice and
frontline care.

Her presence in the field reinforces her credibility and ensures that service design is informed by real-world experience. Whether she’s negotiating contracts or delivering therapy in preschools, Danielle leads with compassion and clinical insight. Danielle’s story is a powerful example of what happens when rural health professionals are supported to lead with heart. Her work has helped Royal Far West achieve a Net
Promoter Score of 89, and 96% of school staff report improved student engagement thanks to the services she oversees.

In a sector often stretched thin, Danielle Taylor stands out—not just for her achievements, but for her unwavering belief that every child, no matter where they live, deserves the best

Investing in inclusion: Why rural playgroups deserve funding

In rural towns across Australia, playgroups are more than just a space for children to play.
