Rates of mental illness in rural and remote Australia are similar to that of major cities. However, access to mental health services in country areas is substantially more limited.
The good news is that there are an increasing number of telephone and online services that people can access to receive immediate, free and specialised assistance.
The National Rural Health Alliance has recently updated its Mental Health Help Sheet to include the full range of services available to people living in rural and remote areas of Australia.
