The National Rural Health Alliance extends a warm welcome to the incoming Health Minister, the Hon Greg Hunt MP. The Alliance is excited that the Member for Flinders will bring to the portfolio an understanding of the current issues relating to rural health in his own rural electorate.
The Alliance is also pleased to congratulate the Hon Ken Wyatt MP on his promotion to the position of Minister for Aged Care and Minister for Indigenous Health.
“People living in rural and remote Australia need people who understand the issues they face on a daily basis to lead the development of health and aged care policy,” Alliance CEO David Butt said today.
“Having two key Ministers with that experience, as well as Assistant Minister for Health, the Hon Dr David Gillespie, is an obvious advantage for the ongoing development of rural health in Australia.
“The Alliance is looking forward to working constructively with all three Ministers as we look to address the significant deficit in rural health outcomes for the 7 million people who live outside Australia’s major cities.
“I congratulate Minister Hunt on his appointment and look forward to discussing potential solutions to the specific challenges facing rural and remote health and wellbeing.
“We have much work to do in the coming months and years. The Alliance, with the combined expertise of its 39 national member bodies, is well placed and ready to support the Minister as he comes to terms with his new portfolio.”
