The National Rural Health Alliance is pleased to announce that registrations are now open for Outback Infront, the 6th Rural and Remote Health Scientific Symposium which will take place in Canberra on 11-12 April 2018.
The Symposium marks 20 years of Australian rural and remote health research that focusses on access and equity, addressing health issues and building the workforce. It will bring together researchers, policy makers and agencies who have put the ‘outback infront’ in their work, to share their research and shape the future of the sector.
Paul Worley, Australia’s first National Rural Health Commissioner, will speak at the Symposium and there will be keynote addresses from Hugh Taylor (Harold Mitchell Professor of Indigenous Eye Health, University of Melbourne) and Alan Cass (the Menzies School of Health Research).
Along with others, Tom Calma, (former Social Justice Commissioner, Chair of Ninti One and Chancellor of the University of Canberra) and Judith Katzenellenbogen (the Heart Foundation Future Leader Fellow, University of Western Australia) will share research associated with Indigenous issues.
Presentations from researchers on insights and challenges in rural and remote health will be complemented by lightning talks, posters and Rogano sessions which enable researchers to workshop their projects with peers.
“The Symposium program features some of the giants in the field of rural and remote health research and a new wave of researchers who have built on their work to take the sector to a new level. There’s a great sense of momentum and the Symposium will be an important mechanism to connect and maintain this progress,” Mark Diamond, Interim CEO of the National Rural Health Alliance said.
The Symposium is being convened by the National Rural Health Alliance in partnership with the Australian Rural Health Education Network (ARHEN), the Federation of Rural Australian Medical Educators (FRAME), and the Primary Health Care Research and Information Service (PHCRIS).
The program is available on the Symposium website at http://ruralhealth.org.au/6rrhss
