Capturing the Magic of Country Life

06 February 2015

More than 6.7 million Australians enjoy the magic of living in the country. They experience and contribute to the creativity and resilience of the communities of rural and remote areas and often witness moments or natural phenomena of sheer beauty and majesty.

In conjunction with the biennial National Rural Health Conference, Friends of the Alliance hosts an amateur Photographic and Poetry Competition to celebrate life in rural and remote Australia.

The theme for this year’s National Rural Health Conference in Darwin is People Places Possibilities. The National Rural Health Alliance (NRHA) is seeking photos and poems that highlight the amazing people, beautiful places and limitless possibilities of life in rural and remote Australia.

“Last year's winning photo entry by Joanna Wagner was a powerful image that resonated deeply with the Conference delegates. The Photo and Poetry Competition is a popular event and something we look forward to each time. I encourage all eligible people to enter and showcase rural and remote Australia," said Gordon Gregory, CEO of the NRHA.

The Photo and Poetry Competition opens on Monday 9 February with entries closing Thursday 9 April 2015. Both competitions are open to all members of the rural and remote community (except professional photographers and poets).

Finalists from each category will be exhibited at the Conference in Darwin, 24-27 May 2015, and will be judged by the delegates attending the event. The winners will be announced at the Conference, with a 1st prize of $500 and 2nd prize of $250 in each category.
